International Conference on Tourism Development in Turkmenistan

Turkmenistan recently hosted an international conference on “Main Directions and Opportunities for Tourism Development in Turkmenistan” on March 27-28, 2024.

Representatives from various ministries of Turkmenistan, as well as international organizations and tourism companies, gathered to discuss the significant role of international cooperation in the country’s tourism sector. Turkmenistan actively engages in organizations such as the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) to promote bilateral and multilateral partnerships in tourism development.

The conference highlighted Turkmenistan’s vast tourism potential, focusing on attractions such as the Silk Road, Ancient Merv, Nisa, and Konye-Urgench. These UNESCO World Heritage sites are renowned worldwide for their historical significance and natural beauty, attracting visitors from across the globe.

In addition to informative sessions, the conference featured an exhibition showcasing Turkmen craftsmanship, accompanied by traditional and modern Turkmen music.

The event provided a platform for fruitful discussions on various aspects of tourism education, sustainability, and cultural preservation. Participants emphasized the importance of promoting Turkmenistan’s tourism opportunities abroad and implementing joint programs to enhance growth in the tourism sector.

On the sidelines of the conference, working meetings took place, contracts were signed, and new partnerships were formed, reflecting efforts to promote cooperation in tourism development.

Among the participants was Dalya Altuntepe, Managing Director of nüma, who delivered a speech at the conference on “Cross-Border Synergies: The Role of Bilateral Partnerships in Tourism Development in Turkmenistan.” Dalya Altuntepe remarked, “In today’s interconnected world, Central Asia offers a treasure trove of cultural heritage and natural wonders waiting to be discovered. Turkmenistan, with its rich history and diverse landscapes, offers travelers authentic experiences. By combining tours with neighboring countries such as Uzbekistan, we can fully harness the potential of Central Asian tourism and showcase the rich diversity of the region’s cultures and landscapes to a global audience.”

The conference served as evidence of Turkmenistan’s commitment to advancing its tourism sector and fostering international cooperation in the preservation of cultural heritage.
